Recipe-Ingrediants

False meatballs, batirikoftedes, or however you want to call them, are the favorite patties of the housewife who, upon opening the fridge, can improvise with whatever ingredients she has to create an appetizer for the family, a snack for a beer, or something delicious for the kids.

Our Ingredients
• 1 slice of stale bread
• 1 grated potato
• 1 grated and squeezed carrot
• 1 grated and squeezed zucchini
• ½ bunch of dill
• ½ bunch of parsley, finely chopped
• 2-3 fresh spring onions, finely chopped
• 1 dry onion, finely chopped
• 200g grated hard cheese (such as kasseri or feta)
• 1 tsp minced garlic
• 1 egg
• A bit of mint
• ½ red bell pepper, finely chopped
• ½ green bell pepper, finely chopped
• 1 tsp baking powder
• A bit of flour
• A bit of milk
• Olive oil for frying

Directions

Remove the crust from the bread and soak it in milk. Squeeze it well and add the rest of our ingredients.
Mix them until you can shape them. Form small balls and press them lightly from the top.
Coat the patties with flour, shake them (toss the ball from one hand to another with quick movements) to remove excess flour, and fry them in medium to hot oil. (Add a few at a time to maintain the oil temperature.)
Place them on absorbent paper to drain the oil and make them crispier.
Serve them warm. You can accompany them with yogurt dip or tomato sauce.
